The partnership marks PGL’s first MLBB tournament in Europe and is aimed at developing grassroots talent and strengthening the region’s mobile esports ecosystem. MLBB, a multiplayer online battle arena title launched in 2016, has recorded more than 1.5 billion installations globally and over 110 million monthly active users, making it one of the world’s most played mobile games

According to MOONTON Games, the new tournament will serve as an entry point for emerging European teams, providing structured competition and a pathway into the broader MLBB esports circuit. PGL, one of Europe’s largest esports organizations, will handle tournament operations and broadcasting.

Ajay Jilka, Head of Esports for Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Central Asia, and Türkiye at MOONTON Games, said the partnership is part of the company’s effort to build a stronger regional foundation for MLBB esports in Europe. He noted that PGL’s experience in running large-scale international tournaments makes it a suitable partner for developing the region’s competitive scene.

PGL Broadcast Producer Sebastian Hudisteanu said hosting the organization’s first MLBB tournament in Europe is a milestone, citing the rapid growth of mobile esports in the region and MLBB’s position at the forefront of that growth.

Tournament format and schedule

The PGL MLBB Challengers Open Qualifier will begin on January 13, 2026. Qualifiers will follow a single-elimination, best-of-one format, with the top eight teams advancing to the main event.

The PGL MLBB Challengers Main Event will take place from January 16 to 18. Early-stage matches will be played in a best-of-three format, progressing to best-of-five matches in later rounds. The Grand Finals will conclude with a best-of-seven series to determine the tournament’s first champion.

Registration for the open qualifiers is currently open via PGL’s official tournament platform

The partnership follows recent developments in MLBB esports, including the announcement of global partners for the M7 World Championship and continued expansion of regional leagues worldwide.
